GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Kenyon Ladies soccer team kept the Denison Big Red scoreless for just the second time this season as the two North Coast Athletic Conference squads played 110 minutes and ended in a 0-0 tie.
Kenyon moved to 4-2-3 overall and 0-0-2 in the conference while Denison moved its record to 6-2-1 and 1-0-1 in league play.
In the first half, Denison struggled early to maintain possession but ended up outshooting Kenyon 11-6. One of the Big Red's best looks came at the 22nd minute from Sydney Ludes. Her shot from just outside the 18 wound up in the arms of
Jillian Countey.
About nine minutes later, Countey had a diving save on a shot from Claire Kolff.
For the Ladies,
Gabriella Ziobro and
Samantha Hayes provided attempts in the final 23 minutes of the half. However, Denison keeper Patil Tcholakian saved both.
In the second half, Denison continued attacking the Kenyon third. The home team had a big advantage in shots, 11-2, but the Ladies' defense stayed strong. Only three of those shots were on goal, and Countey saved all three.
Denison's Riley Hammond provided the best scoring chance with less than six minutes left. After a corner was cleared, her shot rolled inches in front of the right post and out of bounds.
In the first overtime, Raviol had a shot on goal for Kenyon while Denison attempted two more. However, both goalies stopped those shots.
Then in the second extra session, Hammond and Maggie Armstrong had two good looks but neither found net. As for the Ladies,
Gwyneth Phillips provided the team's long shot in the second overtime.
Kenyon will next play Thomas More College on October 6 at Mavec Field starting at 1 p.m.
