Ladies bounce back at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – A day after falling in overtime, the Kenyon Ladies field hockey team rebounded with a 2-0 win at Wittenberg University during a North Coast Athletic Conference match at Edwards-Maurer Field.

The Ladies' offense found more continuity on Sunday as they improved their record to 5-3 and 4-1 in the NCAC. On the other side, Witt fell to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

In the first half, Kenyon's offense was very good as it took eight more shots than the hosts (13-5) while tallying a pair of goals.

Tara Shetty set up Kenyon's first goal at 17:51. The speedy sophomore raced down the near sideline past two defenders, shot at keeper Allie Purvis and watched as Sarah Metzmaier deflected the saved shot back in.

With about five minutes left, Gigi Guenther doubled the Ladies' lead. After Kenyon turned Witt over near the Tigers' cage, Guenther picked up a loose ball near the middle and fired in her third goal of the year.

Defensively, the Ladies locked down Wittenberg's offense and watched as newcomer Suzy Deems stopped a trio of shots.

In the second half, Kenyon's defense stiffened even more and never allowed the Tigers to get back into the game. The Ladies gave up two fewer shots than in the first while Deems added two more saves to her total.

Kenyon still kept pressure on the offensive end as well, outshooting the home team 7-3.

Next on the schedule for the Ladies is a road date at conference foe College of Wooster on September 29 at 11 a.m.
