#20 Wabash pulls away from Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio – Wabash College's Kellen Schreiber and Tyler Watson combined for 51 points on Saturday as the 20th-ranked Little Giants defeated Kenyon College 92-69 in a North Coast Athletic Conference basketball game at Tomsich Arena.

The Little Giants remained in first place in the NCAC (8-0) and improved their overall record to 14-1. On the other side, the Lords dropped to 1-14 and 0-8 in the league.

Ugnius Zilinskas was Kenyon's top scorer as he tallied 17, which tied for his career-best set earlier this year against Waynesburg. Freshman Konrad Christian notched a season-high point total, as well, as he contributed 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting. As a team, the Lords were fabulous at the free throw line hitting 92.9 percent.

Early in the first half, the Lords were down 5-0 before a quick, 6-2 spurt capped off by a Zilinskas fast-break layup brought the tally to 7-6, Wabash. At the 12:08 mark, the visitors had pulled ahead by nine, 17-8, after a Watson three-ball before Kenyon responded again.

Christian converted an and-one on the Lords' next possession before Kamal Aubakirov drained a three-pointer on an assist from Christian Watanabe which brought the score to 17-14. The Lords weren't able to keep that momentum going, though, as Wabash hit another stretch and went back ahead 31-20 with 7:19 left. To cap off the half, the Little Giants scored the last seven points to take a 44-30 halftime lead.

Kenyon continued to battle early into the second half before Wabash pulled away for good. A jumper from Carter Powell at 17:58 moved the deficit to 44-38, however, the Little Giants responded with a 13-2 run to stretch its lead to 57-40.

The closest the Lords got the rest of the way was 13 points, 62-49, following a steal and two-handed slam from Powell at 11:14.

Next on the schedule for Kenyon is a road game at Hiram College on January 16 at 7 p.m.
