Heidelberg pushes past Kenyon in three sets

TIFFIN, Ohio – Heidelberg University (16-3) had a few runs in each set to earn a 3-0 victory over Kenyon College (3-11) on Tuesday night in a non-conference volleyball match at Seiberling Gymnasium.

Lauren Limbach led the way offensively as she registered nine kills. Middle blocker Elyse Davidson added seven kills and a pair of block assists while Mackenzie Bruzzio six kills and 13 digs. Additionally, Meghan Cason dished out 13 assists and Ellie Luciani tallied a team-high 14 digs.

In the first set, Limbach had kills that tied things up at 11 and 13, but the Ladies weren't able to get in front of the Student Princes after that.

Heidelberg, with the score tied at 13-13, tallied five of the next six and a service ace moved the tally to 18-14. Freshman Paige Milhon's kill pulled the Ladies to within one, 18-17, however, Kenyon did not get any closer as the home squad took the opening set, 25-18.

Heidelberg's defense turned things up in the second stanza, holding Kenyon to a .000 attack percentage. Early on, a Milhon kill knotted things up at 8-8, but the Student Princes followed with a massive stretch. Alyssa Crusey started a 13-2 run with three kills and later, Mya Morris added two service aces en route to a 25-13 set-two win.

The third and final set went down to the wire. Kenyon led early as Davidson and Milhon teamed up for a block and after a Heidelberg error, the Ladies held a 4-2 advantage. Several sequences later, Bruzzio's kill pushed the Ladies' lead to 11-10. Competition remained tight afterwards with three ties but it was the Student Princes who found the go-ahead points. With the score evened at 15-15, a 5-1 run by the home squad gave it enough room to stay ahead for good, winning the set and match, 25-20.

Kenyon, which fell to 1-10 away from Tomsich Arena, will remain on the road for its next match which comes on Thursday at Muskingum University (14-2) at 7 p.m.
