One goal is all Ladies need to edge Tigers

GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon College field hockey team tallied an early goal Saturday and that's all the Ladies needed to post a 1-0 North Coast Athletic Conference victory over the DePauw University Tigers.

The victory extended the Ladies' win streak to 10 games, while improving the team's records to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in conference competition. It was also the third consecutive shutout for the Kenyon defense, which hasn't yielded a goal in the last 235:40 of play.

The game's lone goal came off the stick of sophomore Isabella Meneguzzi, who found just enough space to work with in front of the DePauw cage. After rattling around a bit, the ball settled just to the left of Meneguzzi, who then backhanded it over the goal line for her fourth score of the season.

Kenyon had multiple looks throughout the game, but scored just the one goal against the Tigers' defense and goalkeeper Allie Duranceau, who finished the game with nine saves.

The Ladies outshot the Tigers, 21-4, and also maintained the majority of possession time, however, the Ladies defense had to make it through a few tense moments in the third quarter. About midway through the period, the Tigers were awarded a pair of penalty corners. They got decent shots off both those corners, but Kenyon goalkeeper Payton Doan made saves on both.

About a minute later, DePauw's Eva Nicholson found herself free right on the Kenyon doorstep. With a wide-open goal to shoot at, Nicholson's backhand zipped just wide of the left post. That was the last opportunity for DePauw, which failed to come up with another shot for the rest of the game.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 7-7 overall and in 2-2 NCAC play.
