MEADVILLE, Pa. – Allegheny College's Nazareth Greer threw for 305 yards along with five touchdowns as the Gators blanked Kenyon College 49-0 on Saturday afternoon in North Coast Athletic Conference action. The hosts earned its first win of the season while moving its record to 1-5 and 1-4 in the NCAC.
On the other sideline, Kenyon fell to 3-3 and 2-3 in league play.
Allegheny forced a three-and-out against the Lords' offense to start the game and responded with a touchdown drive. Greer opened an 11-play drive with a 19-yard pass to Alex Victor. A few plays later, Austin French broke free for a 38-yard rush. The 84-yard drive ended with a six-yard scoring scamper from French.
The Lords and quarterback
Thomas Merkle got things in gear on their second possession and threatened. Three-straight pass completions moved the ball to the Gators' 28-yard line. However, on the ensuing first down, a sack by Jake Fedell and Darian Parrish moved the ball back nine yards. That defensive play took the momentum out of the drive and Kenyon later turned the ball over on downs.
Four plays later, Allegheny went up 14-0 as Greer hit Dwaine Barber for a 53-yard touchdown. Each team had a couple possessions after that; however, the scoreboard remained the same until about midway through the second.
A Kenyon fumble at its own 38-yard line paved the way for an eight-play drive for the Gators which ended with a 15-yard scoring pass to Victor. In the final 8:28, Allegheny would score twice more after a pair of three-and-outs by the Lords' offense. Greer found Ben Bachik for a touchdown while French scored another rushing touchdown.
By halftime, Allegheny had out-gained the Lords 275-41 and was averaging 6.7 yards per play.
After the break, the home squad added two more touchdowns in the third period for the final margin. Allegheny ended up running thirty more plays (77-47) than Kenyon and held the visitor's offense to 170 yards of offense.
Next week, the Lords will return home to face The College of Wooster at McBride Field starting at noon.
