MEADVILLE, Pa. – The first-ever field hockey meeting between Kenyon College and Allegheny College went exactly as expected as the Ladies defeated the Gators 6-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
With the result, Kenyon equaled its win total from a season ago by improving to 9-2 and 2-0 in league competition. Additionally, it was the eighth-straight victory for the Ladies.
The visitors from Gambier controlled the match, outshooting the first-year program 25-1 while holding a 13-0 penalty corner advantage.
After firing seven shots in the opening period and coming up empty, Kenyon responded in the second to take a 2-0 lead.
Tara Shetty tallied the squad's only needed goal as she scored on a pass from
Isabella Meneguzzi in the 16th minute. Then with less than five minutes before halftime,
Hannah Sklar fed teammate
Sarah Metzmaier and the sophomore doubled Kenyon's advantage.
Metzmaier scored the next two for Kenyon, 46 seconds into the third quarter and at the 35:04 mark to extend the lead to 4-0. The hat trick for Metzmaier marked the first time a Ladies player tallied that amount since
Weezie Foster did so against The College of Wooster on October 8, 2016, a span of 58 matches.
There were two more goals for Kenyon, and they were scored by Sklar and
Bella Kern. Sklar, a senior, scored on a pass from
Lydia Turk and
Olivia O'Connell fed Kern for the game's final tally.
By game's end, Kenyon's defense had surrendered just one shot to the Gators. Over this eight-match winning streak, the team has given up just four goals.
Next on the schedule for the Ladies is a home date against conference opponent Wittenberg University on October 13.
