GAMBIER, Ohio – Oberlin College dealt the Kenyon College Lords basketball team a 77-57 loss on Wednesday night in North Coast Athletic Conference action at Tomsich Arena.
The Yeomen (6-2, 1-1 NCAC) controlled the interior, scoring 46 of their 77 points in the paint while holding a plus-10 rebounding advantage (39-29). Additionally, the visitors used a 55.6 percent second-half shooting clip to double a 10-point halftime advantage by game's end.
Within the first 3:10 of competition, Oberlin had attained a 9-2 lead after two free throws from Christian Fioretti. The Lords responded with a quick, 8-2 spurt as
Carter Powell sank a pair of shots to bring the tally to 11-10 at the 13:22 mark.
That min-run was short lived, though, as the Yeomen scored the next seven points including an and-one conversion from Wolf Moser at 11:16. Over the remainder of the half, the closest Kenyon got was six points (22-16), and that happened at 6:24 on a jumper from
Ugnius Zilinskas.
At the halftime break, Oberlin led 36-26.
Once the two teams returned from the locker room, the Lords drew first blood early in the second. Following an offensive rebound from
Elijah Davis, the sophomore point guard fed newcomer
Sam Walch and the Ellington, Connecticut native drained a three-ball to bring the tally to 36-29.
That shot from Walch did not propel the Lords, though, as Oberlin responded with an 11-2 run. Andre Campbell scored four during that stretch while Dorde Otasevic added five as Oberlin took a 47-31 lead with 16:15 remaining. For Otasevic, he ended the game with 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting.
After that stretch, the Yeomen would stay in front by double-digits the rest of the way.
Three Lords scored 13 points: Powell, Zilinskas and Davis. As a team, Kenyon shot 39.3 percent with half of its attempts (28) coming from deep.
Next on the schedule for Kenyon is a home date with Denison University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
