NAPLES, Fla. – Kenyon College earned a pair of 9-1 victories against Nazareth College and Alfred State College on Sunday at North Collier Regional Park. The Ladies run-ruled each team and moved their record to 10-2 in the process.
GAME ONE
Newcomer
Sara Campagna was 3-for-3 with two RBI as the Ladies scored nine unanswered runs in the contest.
The Golden Eagles tallied their first and only run of the game in the first frame. With runners on second and third after a wild pitch, Marissa Tortora connected with a sacrifice fly to plate Janelle Walters.
Senior
Austen Whibley then ended the jam with back-to-back strikeouts.
Following a scoreless second, the Ladies tied the game and found the go-ahead run in the third.
Clare McMahon walked to start and that was followed by a two-bagger from
Grace Finn. In the next at-bat, freshman
Nicole Bishay drove in McMahon via groundout. Kenyon's go-ahead run came off the bat of Campagna who singled through the left side.
Over the course of the next couple innings, the Ladies defense and pitching limited the Golden Eagles to five base runners, including just one in scoring position.
In the fourth and fifth innings, Kenyon pulled away. The Ladies scored four runs in the fourth, two of which came by error. Then in the fifth,
Grace Pilz smacked a three-run homer to extend the advantage to 9-1.
Kenyon closed the game out in the home half of the fifth as Whibley (5-0) induced a groundout before
Keely Sweet entered and got a double-play ball to Bishay at shortstop.
GAME TWO
The Ladies' strong offensive close in game one translated into their second game of the day. By the end of the second inning, Kenyon had plated a half-dozen runs against the Pioneers.
Things started in the first as
Britny Patterson and Bishay each collected RBI singles.
A frame later, Campagna pushed across two more with a double before Bishay drove in teammate
Lauren Graf with a single to left field.
The Pioneers did manage to get one run on the board in the fourth as Betsy Butlak brought home Marissa Varela with a sacrifice bunt. Alfred had another opportunity to score with one out and runners on first and third, however, Kenyon pitcher
Emily Pater induced a double-play to short to end the threat.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Ladies ended the game. McMahon pushed the lead to 7-1 with an RBI double before Finn smacked a triple and scored after an error by the Pioneers' second baseman.
Four different Ladies recorded multiple hits including a 3-for-3 performance from Bishay. In the circle, Pater improved to 4-0 as she allowed three hits, no runs and struck out three. Additionally,
