Ladies close road haul with another victory

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Avery Morgan and Cassie Hudson-Heck each scored six goals as the Kenyon Ladies lacrosse team wrapped up their road trip to Tennessee with an 18-8 win over Ursinus College on Sunday at Sewanee's Puett Field. Kenyon won its fourth consecutive game and improved its record to 5-2.

After an early goal was allowed to Ursinus, the Ladies came back to the tune of eight-straight scores and seized complete control.

The 1-0 deficit was erased at the 24:51 mark as senior Lucy Somers fed her classmate, Hudson-Heck, for the tying score.  A little over three minutes later, Maggie Grabowski scored unassisted, giving the Ladies their first lead.

Over the next 12 minutes, Kenyon dominated possession, scored six more goals and led 8-1 after Hudson-Heck tallied her third goal of the contest. Morgan also added three goals in that span.

Also during that same stretch, the Ladies did not give up a single shot to the Bears, had three caused turnovers, collected four draw controls and eight ground balls.

By halftime, Kenyon led 8-3.

A strong start to the second stanza furthered Kenyon's advantage. A 6-1 run highlighted by two goals apiece from Morgan and Hudson-Heck pushed the lead to 14-4 with less than 15 minutes left.

The Bears scored three in a row after that, but the 10-goal deficit turned out to be too much as the Ladies reasserted themselves the rest of the way. Morgan, Grabowski, Somers and Hudson-Heck registered the team's last four goals en route to the final margin.

Apart from Morgan and Hudson-Heck, Somers contributed three goals and four assists while Grabowski scored twice, collected six ground balls and three draw controls. Julia Mahoney also aided the Kenyon attack with three helpers. In goal, Carina Barnes denied seven shots.

Next on the schedule for the Ladies is a home game on March 16 at 1 p.m. against Otterbein University.
