WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Kenyon men's lacrosse team had arguably its best performance of the year on Wednesday night as it crushed Otterbein University 19-4 at Memorial Stadium.
With the win, the Lords improved to 5-3 with their North Coast Athletic Conference opener against Ohio Wesleyan University – a team that Otterbein took to overtime – on tap this coming Saturday at McBride Field.
The Lords dominated the first half as they held a 20-11 shots advantage and a 9-4 lead in face-offs. By halftime, Kenyon had attained a 9-2 lead.
To get to that point, the Lords opened with four goals from four different players in the first 13 minutes of action.
Emilio Sosa got the visitors on the board before
Matt Pollack pushed the lead to 4-0 at the 3:32 mark.
The Cardinals stopped the bleeding with a goal from Nawny Bailey; however, the Lords wouldn't allow Otterbein to get in rhythm after that tally.
Kenyon responded with five-straight scores with the last from
Joe Woody at the 6:43 mark of the second. That goal put the Lords up 9-1.
In the second half, Kenyon continued its onslaught.
Joe Bolea,
Kern Byrnes and
Sam Hatfield got into the scoring mix as the team scored 10 of the 12 goals in the third and fourth periods. Woody added two more, as did Harrigan, and Kenyon left the field with a 19-4 victory.
The 15-goal margin of victory was Kenyon's second-biggest against the Cardinals.
In goal,
David Metzger tallied 11 saves for Kenyon while teammate
Mayo Amorello added a pair.
Kenyon will now prepare for its NCAC opener against Ohio Wesleyan. That game will start at 1 p.m. on March 23.
