Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Ladies drop opener to Yellow Jackets

ERIE, Pa. – Baldwin Wallace University notched a 2-0 win over the Kenyon Ladies soccer team Friday night in a neutral site match played on the campus of Penn State Behrend College. It was the season-opening match for both teams.

Each team managed to take nine shots during the contest, but it was the Yellow Jackets who capitalized.

Within the first eight minutes, the Ladies missed a good chance to break the scoreless tie. A cross from the right wing came to Maddie Ladd but her shot within ten yards of the left post went wide.

More than halfway through the first stanza, Baldwin Wallace broke through. A hard shot from the left side by Alex Guido was saved by Kenyon goalie Jillian Countey but the loose ball trickled to Olivia Kane who finished from the right-side post.

Junior standout Caroline McNeer had the team's last shot of the half, however, her attempt from left of the 18-yard box came into the arms of BW keeper Emma Bruno.

Just before halftime, the Yellow Jackets added their final tally. Following a Ladies foul near the right sideline, a free kick from Kenna Poptic was deflected to Michelina Rush who finished in the upper portion of the net.

Early in the second half, Kenyon had some good movement in the final third including a decent look from Olivia Dion at the 55:07 mark. However, the Ladies' two shots attempts in the first portions of the second half came up empty.

In the game' final 32 minutes, the Ladies were able to generate just one more attempt.

Tomorrow, Kenyon will face host Penn State Behrend starting at 5 p.m.
