GAMBIER, Ohio – The Kenyon Ladies field hockey team overwhelmed Oberlin College on Saturday, winning at the field at Benson Bowl 7-0. Kenyon won for the 13th straight time in the series and improved its overall record to 3-2.
Sophomore
Sarah Metzmaier tallied a career-high six points on two goals and two assists as the Ladies ran up advantages in shots (36-0) and penalty corners (14-0).
It was not until late in the first quarter that Kenyon broke the scoreless tie. Metzmaier found herself within five yards of the cage and backhanded a shot for Kenyon's first goal.
That paved the way to a four-goal second stanza. Not even three minutes into the next period,
Olivia O'Connell found Metzmaier along the right post and she shot to double the Ladies' lead. Less than two minutes later, O'Connell got into the action on a feed from
Isabella Meneguzzi. with her first goal of the season.
Kenyon added two more goals before halftime on shots from
Emma Hyer and
Bella Kern.
After the break, the Ladies added single goals in the third and fourth quarters. Fourteen seconds into the third,
Tara Shetty drove down the middle past multiple defenders and tallied the team's sixth goal. Then in the fourth, Metzmaier flicked a pass to the left post where Meneguzzi finished a shot under Oberlin's keeper's legs.
Kenyon's next match comes September 18 at 4:30 p.m. when it hosts Ohio Wesleyan University.
