Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Kenyon upsets #15 Otterbein, 5-4

GAMBIER, Ohio – Kenyon women's soccer players Fallon Raviol, Samantha Hayes and Olivia Dion each registered multiple points as the Ladies upset previously unbeaten and No. 15-ranked (United Soccer Coaches) Otterbein University 5-4 on Saturday at Mavec Field.

A fast start to both halves paved the way for Kenyon's biggest win so far this season. In fact, this was the first regular-season victory against a ranked opponent since a 2-1 win against Calvin College on August 31, 2007.

Just 33 seconds into competition, Raviol scored her first goal of 2019 on a pass from freshman Isabel Fine. After five shots from the visitors, including one on target from Haley Hott in the 19th minute, Raviol doubled the advantage.

Hayes crossed a pass from the left side and Raviol met the pass with a header into the bottom-left corner. Then at 24:57, Kenyon added another. Caroline McNeer found Dion and the sophomore headed home another goal, her first of the year.

After the break, the Ladies got a crucial fourth goal 26 seconds into the half. Raviol passed to newcomer Olivia Carriero who shot from distance past Cardinals goalie Erin Gordon.

Down 4-0, Otterbein started chipping away. A pair of penalty-kick conversions from Bella Shivley and Emily Ganz in the 48th and 54th minutes cut the Kenyon lead in half. The Ladies regrouped after that to extend their lead to three again. A through ball from Dion was picked up by Hayes around the left side of the goalie's box and she scored with a shot into the right side.

Otterbein, though, continued attacking. Shivley found Ganz at 70:20 to bring the tally to 5-3. That duo paired up again at 84:58 as Shivley scored from the top of the 18. Otterbein had two more good looks after that, but attempts from Delaney Earl and Ganz were saved and another hit the post.

The Ladies will look to build on this with a trip to Capital University on September 18 for a 5 p.m. match.
