GAMBIER, Ohio – Kenyon College men's soccer coach
Chris Brown earned his 200th career win on Saturday as his team rolled Thomas More University (NAIA) 7-1 at Mavec Field. It was the Lords' sixth straight win and it improved their record to 7-1.
On this day, Brown turned to his second and third wave of players and they did not disappoint.
After the Saints struck first a little over eight minutes in, the Lords buckled down and turned to another gear. Two-and-a-half minutes after the game's initial goal, Kenyon tied things up.
Sophomore
Sebastian Gaese found fellow classmate
Sam Carson along the right side of the 18 and Carson fired into the upper right corner, his fourth goal of 2019. Then in the 19th minute, the Lords went ahead for good.
Drew Parker passed to a streaking
Tomas Munoz Reyes who finished into the right side.
The Lords added two more goals in the 31st and 36th minutes. Freshmen
Atli Hrafnkelsson and
Alhasan Barrie teamed up to push Kenyon's lead to 3-1 and then another first-year,
Trevor Gleason, converted a penalty kick. By halftime, the Lords had a 4-1 advantage and had out-shot Thomas More 12-3.
In the second half, the Lords continued their offensive onslaught adding five more attempts (17) than their first-half total while holding TMU to a pair of looks.
Hrafnkelsson tallied two goals in the second stanza on assists from Gleason and
Sebastian Brylka. Additionally, Gleason scored on a pass from newcomer
Keven Cosgel.
Kenyon will return to DIII competition on September 24 when Wilmington College (7-1) pays a visit to Mavec for a 5:15 p.m. start time.
