Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Ladies win NCAC opener in double overtime

MEADVILLE, Pa. – It took nearly 110 minutes, but the Kenyon College women's soccer team found a way to break through the Allegheny College defense to score a double-overtime goal and record a win in what was the North Coast Athletic Conference opening game for both teams.

With just 19 seconds left in double overtime, Kenyon junior Caroline McNeer set up the game-winner which was finished by Maddie Ladd, also a junior. The goal was Ladd's second of the season and the second in her last three games. The assist was McNeer's team-leading fourth of the season.

Throughout the game, Allegheny held a slim 14-13 edge in shots taken. Both teams had eight shots on goal. Allegheny also held a slim 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Kenyon went with freshman Erika Freiberg between the pipes and she responded with eight saves to record her first collegiate shutout.

The win, Kenyon's third straight over Allegheny in as many seasons, moved the Ladies' overall record to 4-5-0. The loss dropped Allegheny to 2-2-4. The game also marked the fourth straight contest the Gators went to double overtime. The previous three all ended in ties.

The Ladies will continue their conference schedule next Saturday, when they host Wittenberg University in a 1 p.m. battle at Mavec Field.
