Game Recap: Volleyball |

Ladies fall to nationally-ranked opponents

LANSING, Mich. – Saturday, the second and final day of the MIAA-NCAC Challenge, the Kenyon College volleyball team had the unenviable task of playing back-to-back matches against No. 2-ranked Calvin College and No. 17-ranked Hope College. The Ladies ended up dropping both matches in three sets and their early-season record fell to 2-5.

In the first match of the day, Calvin (5-0) limited Kenyon to just 25 kills en route to a 25-14, 25-15, 25-16 victory. The Knights amassed 43 kills and tallied 11 service aces to roll past Kenyon.

In Saturday's second match, things unfolded in a similar way. Kenyon was held to 21 kills by Hope (5-1), which countered with 42 kills and 14 service aces during a 25-26, 25-17, 25-10 victory.

Senior Mackenzie Bruzzio led the Ladies' front line. Her 13 kills, six against Calvin and seven against Hope, were a team-high for the day. She also chipped in with a dozen digs and one block.

Sophomore Tara Ford also had a productive day for the Ladies. She got the start in both matches and responded with a combined .421 hitting percentage on 10 kills and just two errors. She also racked up a team-high six blocks to go along with five digs.

Other noteworthy stats from the Ladies' side included seven kills from freshman Macy Reimbold, nine digs from sophomore Ellie Luciani and four blocks from junior Elyse Davidson. Meghan Cason and Jac Cousineau shared time at the setter positon. Cason got the start in both matches and tallied 17 assists. Cousineau followed up with 16.

The Ladies head back home and get ready for Marietta College on Wednesday night. That will be a non-conference home game with a 7 p.m. start.
