GAMBIER, Ohio – Wabash College's Jack Davidson and Tyler Watson combined for 49 points as the Little Giants (16-7, 12-4 NCAC) never trailed in a 91-79 North Coast Athletic Conference basketball win against Kenyon College (6-17, 3-13 NCAC) on Saturday at Tomsich Arena.
Wabash's offense was not slowed down as it hit 52.5 percent from the field and 60 percent from downtown.
Leading the Lords was junior
Ugnius Zilinskas who tallied 19 points while hitting 10-of-15 at the free throw line.
Elijah Davis added 14 points on 7-of-14 shooting while
Carter Powell added 14 points, nine boards and three blocks. Additionally, senior
Alex Cate came off the bench to contribute 10 points and four rebounds.
Within the first four minutes, the visitors opened a 14-8 lead after back-to-back threes from Davidson and Watson. Kenyon buckled down after that to tie things up at 19.
An 11-5 stretch was sparked by Zilinskas' four points while Powell and newcomer
Nick Lewis added buckets. Lewis' layup at 10:19 tied the contest. Over the next seven minutes, though, Wabash responded with an 18-6 run and went ahead by twelve, 37-25, following Ahmoni Jones' layup.
By halftime, Wabash attained a 42-32 advantage.
Following intermission, the Lords pulled to within six at the 16:10 mark. Cate hit two free throws after a foul by Kellen Schreiber and moved the scoreboard to 50-46. Kenyon came up with a stop on Wabash's next possession, however, the Lords could not inch any closer.
The Little Giants scored eight of the next 10 points and after Davidson's pull-up three from the right wing, Wabash led by double digits again, 58-46, with about 13 minutes left. The closest the Lords got the rest of the way was nine points, 74-65, after a Davis three with 7:40 left.
Next on the schedule for Kenyon is a road date with Ohio Wesleyan University (11-12, 6-10 NCAC) on February 19 at 8 p.m.
