Lords’ year ends with Senior Day loss to Gators

GAMBIER, Ohio – Allegheny College was three points off the Tomsich Arena scoring record as it defeated Kenyon College 100-77 on Saturday in North Coast Athletic Conference men's basketball action.

The Lords ended their season with a 6-19 overall record and 3-15 NCAC mark.

Allegheny saw all five of its starters score in double figures as the visitors shot above 51 percent from the field and three-point range.

Kenyon, which honored seniors Alex Cate, Ryan O'Neil and Carter Powell in the pregame, was led by Powell's 19 points on 6-of-14 shooting. Junior Ugnius Zilinskas added 16 points and a career-high seven assists while newcomer Nick Lewis added nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from downtown.

The energy was rocking through the first 4:30 minutes of action as Kenyon attained a 9-2 lead following a three-ball from Powell. Kenyon maintained its advantage several minutes after that, and following two Kase Cronin free throws, led 15-11 with 10:42 left until half.

The Gators really got in gear after that, though, hitting a 15-4 stretch. They hit five of eight shots and sank a trio of free throws to seize a 26-19 lead. Kenyon came back to regain the lead, 30-29, after a shot from sophomore Elijah Davis. However, a couple possessions later, the Gators' Brian Roberts Jr. hit a long ball and moved the tally to 32-30. After that, the visitors stayed in front and took a 41-35 halftime lead.

Allegheny's momentum carried over into the second half. Within two minutes, it led 49-39 after an and-one conversion from Caden Hinckley. The Lords were able to crack that double-digit twice after that on shots from Lewis and Zilinskas but could not get any closer than seven points (53-46).

Over the final 16:56, the Gators would extend their lead to as many as 27 points. In the second half, they shot a sizzling 64.5 percent from the field and 68 percent from three.
