Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Sagehens defense shuts down Ladies

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The start of the Kenyon College Ladies' spring break schedule got off to a bit of rocky start Tuesday night, as they dropped a 15-4 women's lacrosse game to the host Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.

The Sagehens held the Ladies to just two goals in each half and limited the Kenyon team to 16 shots throughout the contest. Entering the game, Kenyon was averaging more than 35 shots and 17 goals per game.

The loss evened out Kenyon's record at 2-2, while Pomona-Pitzer improved to 5-0.

The Sagehens scored the first two goals of the game. Kenyon then tallied its first goal, from Caroline O'Neil, about eight minutes into play. Twelve seconds after that Kenyon score, Pomona-Pitzer scored again and followed with five more over the next ten minutes.

Maggie Grabowski tallied Kenyon's second goal right around the 22-minute mark, but Pomona-Pitzer fired in two more at the other end to take a 10-2 lead into the break.

The second half opened with another Kenyon goal from O'Neil and it closed with a goal from Ella Murphy. Both those Kenyon scores came on free-position shots. In between the two, Pomona-Pitzer put together a streak of five goals and put things out of reach for the Ladies.

Sarah Woo led the Sagehens with three goals and an assist. Kiera Havill and Sarah Casey each added two goals to the total for Pomona-Pitzer, which finished the game with 25 shots.

The Ladies now turn their attention to their next game, which will be Friday against Chapman University.
