Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Ladies prevail at Chapman, 15-9

ORANGE, Ca. -- A big finish to the first half helped the Kenyon Ladies lacrosse team to a 15-9 win at Chapman University on Friday. It was the first-ever meeting between the schools and the victory improved Kenyon's record to 3-2.

In the final 11:18, the Ladies scored eight unanswered and built an insurmountable 11-1 advantage.

Up until that point, Kenyon scored the game's first three goals from Julia Losey, Maggie Grabowski and Avery Morgan. After that good start, though, the Ladies' offensive efforts slowed down due to some turnovers.

Defensively, the Ladies picked things up to keep their lead. Kenyon forced a few turnovers and watched as first-year goalie Delaney Gallagher notched three saves. Following about an eight-minute span of no scoring, the Ladies got in gear.

Newcomer Emma Hutchison started the 8-0 stretch with a goal right in front of the net at 11:18. Classmates Ella Murphy and Caroline O'Neil each scored twice after that before Julia Mahoney ended Kenyon's run with a goal at 2:38.

For Chapman, it did not take a single shot in that 8:40 span and it committed four turnovers.

After intermission, the home squad made a little run as Kenyon went to a second wave of players. Aisling Roberts started a 7-1 stretch with two goals while Marie Hartield ended the run with a goal at 4:27. That brought the score to 13-8, Kenyon.

The Ladies then re-entered numerous starters and took a breath as Katelyn Schwartz and Grabowski scored two straight, effectively putting the game away.

Morgan led the Ladies with three goals while O'Neil and Grabowski each tallied two goals and two assists apiece. For Gallagher, she notched a season-high 10 saves.

Kenyon will close its trip to California on March 9 with a game at Occidental College starting at 1 p.m. (PST).
