Ladies drop conference match to Fighting Scots

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Junior Macy Reimbold had a dozen kills and classmate Paige Milhon chalked up seven blocks, but the Kenyon College volleyball team couldn't get past The College of Wooster on Tuesday night. The Fighting Scots left Tomsich Arena with a 25-22, 25-12, 23-25, 25-15 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) win.

The Fighting Scots leaned heavily on setter Syd Case, who did not disappoint. The senior directed the Wooster attack and racked up 32 assists in the four-set match. Benefitting from her play, Hayley Nash produced 11 kills, while Emily Gail and Katie Billetdeaux had nine each.

Reimbold's 12 kills for Kenyon were a match-high and gave her a team-best 166 kills for the season. Milhon's seven blocks pushed her season total to 72, the sixth-best total in the NCAC. Milhon also had eight kills and a .533 attack percentage against Wooster. Ellie Luciani added 18 digs and Jac Cousineau contributed 13 assists.

Wooster held a wide margin in team kills, 54-35, and got an extra boost in the serving department, where it tallied 13 service aces.

Kenyon kept the first set close, but Wooster snapped a 20-20 tie by scoring five of the set's last seven points. Included in that run were two kills from Case, who found a hole in the middle of the Ladies' defense.

Set two was dominated by the Fightins Scots, who peeled away from the Ladies with a run of eight straight points, all served by Trinity Harmon, who had two aces in the run and four for the match.

The Ladies kept things close again in the fourth set and capitalized on five straight Wooster attack errors. Later, Eras Yager scored a kill, Katie Howard served up an ace and Milhon added a kill to put the Ladies ahead 22-19. After that, both teams muddled through a couple errors until Kenyon's Elyse Davidson smacked down the set-winning kill.

In the fourth set, the Ladies returned the favor, yielding four attack errors in a Wooster run of six straight points. From there, the Kenyon women never got closer than three points.

The loss dropped Kenyon's records to 2-15 overall and 0-6 in NCAC play. The win moved Wooster to 14-7 overall and 3-3 in conference competition.
