Kenyon duo powers Ladies to sixth straight win

GAMBIER, Ohio -- For the sixth consecutive game, both Bella Kern and Sarah Metzmaier scored goals for the Kenyon College field hockey team, which defeated Allegheny College, 2-0, in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest held Saturday on The Field at Benson Bowl.

With both Kern and Metzmaier tallying six goals apiece in that six-game span, the Ladies have gone undefeated. Saturday's win over the Gators bumped Kenyon's records to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in conference action. Meanwhile, the loss dropped Allegheny to 4-4 overall and 0-1 within NCAC play.

Against the Gators, it was Kern who struck first. Early in the second quarter, Metzmaier took a close-range shot that goalkeeper Hallie Reiger stopped. The rebound, however, came to Kern, who lifted her shot over Reiger and high into the Gators' cage.

About 13 minutes later, Metzmaier matched Kern. Her goal came off a penalty corner inserted by Hannah Paprotna. The ball went to Carolyn Herbosa at the top of the circle. Herbosa then passed over to Metzmaier. From the right wing, Metzmaier uncorked a low shot that zipped past Reiger. It was Metzmaier's team-leading seventh score of the season and Herbosa's first assist of the season.

At the other end of the field, Kenyon goalkeeper Payton Doan was sharp. She faced ten Allegheny shots on cage and saved them all to register her fourth individual shutout of the season.

The Ladies return to action tomorrow, hosting the No. 19-ranked University of Lynchburg Hornets in a non-conference contest that starts at noon.
