Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Ladies need just one to topple Tigers

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- A goal from senior Samantha Hayes was all the Kenyon College women's soccer team needed to post a road victory against the Wittenberg University Tigers on Saturday at Edwards Maurer Field.

The 1-0 win kept Kenyon's North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) record unblemished at 2-0-0, while improving the Ladies' overall record to 5-6-0. The loss dropped Wittenberg to 4-6-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.

Kenyon got the game's lone goal in the 17th minute of action. That's when a long pass from just inside the midfield stripe found Hayes, who was running down the left flank. Hayes beat two defenders to the ball and dribbled into the box. From there, she made a quick cut to her right, which peeled off one defender. She then loaded up and fired past the second defender, curling her shot into the right side of the Wittenberg goal.

The goal was Hayes' third of the season and the 17th of her Kenyon career.

Following that, the Ladies defense took care of the rest, allowing just five shots on goal, all of which Leah Anderson, Kenyon's goalkeeper, saved. Anderson, who has started nine games for the Ladies, now has four shutouts to her credit this season.

Next up for the Kenyon women is a rivalry game at Denison University. That conference contest is slated for Saturday, October 9 at 1 p.m.
