Ladies celebrate Senior Day with 3-0 triumph

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday and, naturally, a couple seniors rose to the occasion, lifting the Ladies to a 3-0 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) victory over the visiting Hiram College Terriers.

Senior Olivia Dion played a role in each of Kenyon's first two tallies. In the game's 32nd minute, she scored the game's first goal off an assist from junior Chloe Webb. In the game's 73rd minute, she earned an assist on a goal scored by first-year Talulla Sheridan.

Dion's productive game moved her season totals to three goals and four assists. She also took the team lead in points with 10 in 15 games played.

Setting up the Kenyon first goal, Webb slotted her pass right through the middle of the Hiram defense, as Dion broke loose and got to it for a breakaway. She drew out the goalkeeper, Skyler Huda, then broke to her right and fired into the empty net.

Late in the game, Dion broke loose again, this time down the left sideline. She crossed to the center of the field for Julia Igoe. Igoe collected, turned and fed Sheridan at the top of the box. From there, Sheridan uncorked a left-footed shot that tucked into the upper left corner of the Terriers' goal.

A little less than six minutes after that, another Kenyon senior, Samantha Hayes, logged her name next to the other Kenyon goal scorers. Following a Kenyon free kick on their own side of the field, a misplayed header by a Hiram defender fell to Hayes. Spinning to her right, Hayes dribbled into the box and buried her fourth goal of the season into the lower left corner of the Hiram goal.

The Ladies, now 7-7-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the NCAC, didn't start the game out the way that they had hoped, but by the time the second half rolled around they set up camp in Hiram territory and wound up outshooting the Terriers, 18-10.

Kenyon junior goalkeeper Leah Anderson played all 90 minutes, made two saves and recorded her conference-best seventh shutout of the season.

On the other side of the field, the loss dropped Hiram to 2-13-0 overall and 0-5-0 in conference contests.
