Baker's early goal lifts Kenyon to 1-0 victory over Oberlin

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's soccer team moved one step closer to the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament with a 1-0 home win over Oberlin College.

The Ladies controlled the pace of the game from the opening kickoff. Kenyon recorded a season-high 28 shots in the contest while holding Oberlin to seven. The Ladies quickly placed four shots on goal in the first four minutes. The last shot on goal proved to be the difference maker in the match. Sadie Gould placed her header off the corner in the side netting but an Oberlin defender stood in the way. Morgan Baker cleaned up the resulting loose ball by putting it in the back of the net, giving Kenyon a 1-0 lead. The Ladies continued to pressure the Yeowomen defense by adding four more shots on goal to their total.

After halftime, Kenyon continued to earn clear looks to add to their lead. The Ladies tallied 15 shots in the second half but only put three on goal.   The Yeowomen's only shot on goal came in the 54th minute in the game. Oberlin's Zoe Garver sent a shot from 20-yards out but Leah Anderson smothered the ball to keep her team ahead by one. The Yeowomen had another opportunity to tie the game a few minutes later after Kenyon conceded an indirect free kick inside the box, but the ensuing Oberlin shot went well over the crossbar. The defense held tight the rest of the way as the Ladies secured a 1-0 win.

Kenyon wraps up the regular season with a road trip to Greencastle, Indiana on Saturday as the Ladies take on the Tigers at 2:30 p.m.
