Ladies fall to Tigers, prep for postseason

GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- The Kenyon College Ladies' regular season schedule and three-game win-streak came to an end Saturday with a 1-0 loss at DePauw University.

The host Tigers got a goal in the game's 19th minute from Annalise Grammel. That goal was preceded by a foul and a free kick just to the right side of the Kenyon box. The kick was sent into the middle of the box, where Grace Truax headed it back out to Grammel. Grammel was at the top of the box and fired her shot into the middle of the Kenyon goal, just under the crossbar.

That's all it took for DePauw to capture the win. The teams played fairly evenly throughout the game, as both finished with 10 shots. DePauw had a slight edge in corners, at 3-2.

Kenyon goalkeeper Leah Anderson made four saves in the Kenyon loss. She, and the rest of the Kenyon defense, saw their run of scoreless minutes, spanning six games, come to an end at 409.

The defeat dropped the Ladies to 8-8-1 overall and 5-2-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Their conference record put them into a tie for second place, with The College of Wooster, in the final NCAC standings. Kenyon won the regular-season game against Wooster, so the Ladies earned the No. 2 seed and the right to host the No. 3-seeded Fighting Scots in Tuesday's NCAC Tournament semifinal round.

That semifinal game will be played at 2 p.m. on Mavec Field. The winner of the semifinal will move on to Saturday's NCAC final to play the winner of the other semifinal game between No. 1-seeded Denison University and No. 4-seeded Wittenberg University.

With the win, DePauw's season came to a close with a 3-8-2 overall record and 2-4-1 NCAC mark.
