Zavaleta resets record on three-meter board

RESULTS

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A few Kenyon College divers made a quick trip north to participate in the Calvin University Winter Invitational on Friday. The journey proved to be well worth it for sophomore Israel Zavaleta, who inked a few more records on his resume.

In the morning preliminaries, Zavaleta broke the Calvin pool records for scoring on the three-meter diving board. His score for six dives stood at 399.60 and his score for 11 dives totaled up to 593.65. Both those scores were also Kenyon records, topping Zavaleta's previous bests of 390.05 and 592.95 set on October 16 during the season-opening Kenyon College Relays.

In addition to Zavaleta's impressive showing, Kenyon also received a third-place preliminary spot from junior Drew Albrecht, who posted an 11-dive score of 433.

The Lords made the trip to get used to the facility at Calvin, which will be hosting the Regional Diving Championships in late February. They returned right after Friday's preliminary round, and did not compete in the finals, due to class commitments.
