Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Gators use late run to hold off Ladies

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- A four-goal run midway through the second half of Tuesday's women's lacrosse game allowed the host Allegheny College Gators to pull away from the Kenyon College Ladies en route to a 14-11 North Coast Athletic Conference victory.

With 17:12 left in the contest, Allegheny's Senna Perelman rang up a goal to give the Gators an 11-9 lead. Twenty-five seconds later, Perelman assisted Grace Baginski on another Gator goal. Then, at the 14:31 mark, Perelman tallied one more on a free position shot. When Perelman stepped aside, Mary Allen completed the Allegheny run with a goal that gave the Gators a 14-9 advantage with 11:50 on the clock.

Kenyon (0-3, 0-3 NCAC) tried to pull even over the last ten minutes of play, but goals from Tatumn Eccleston and Kate Lengel were all they could muster in the final moments of the three-goal defeat.

Other than that four-goal spurt from Allegheny, the teams played a pretty even game. In the first half, Allegheny jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but Kenyon scored four of the game's next five goals to knot things up at 6-6. Lengel scored two of those four goals for the Ladies.

Allegheny answered with two more scores and Kenyon closed out the first 30 minutes of action with an Alex Tiatia goal and an 8-7 deficit.

Throughout the game, Kenyon outshot Allegheny 32-23, but the Gators' goalkeeper, Fiona Barrett, made a dozen saves to keep her team in front. The Gators also got a huge lift in the center of the field, where they won 19 of the 27 draw controls. Perelman and Liz Dolan were both responsible for six of those draws for the Gators.

In addition to her six draws, Perelman finished with game-highs of four goals, four assists and eight points. Baginski wound up with three goals, while Eva Malagise notched two goals and two assists for Allegheny (3-4, 1-2 NCAC).

For Kenyon, Lengel led the offense with four goals. Tiatia and Julia Losey each tossed in two goals, while Eccleston scored the one late goal and served up a trio of assists.

The Ladies have just one game left on their 2021 schedule and that's a rematch with Allegheny. This time, however, the Ladies host the Gators for a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday.
