Ladies close competition with loss at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- The Kenyon College volleyball team made the trip to Wittenberg University on Friday to finish off its spring schedule. The host Tigers didn't entertain any ideas about an upset and ended up sending the Ladies back to Gambier with a 25-10, 25-12, 25-14 loss.

Wittenberg (5-2) racked up 35 kills during the three-set win, while Kenyon (0-2) managed 15. Sidney Reeder led the Tigers with a game-high 10 kills. Katie Hiestand and Sarah Hettich both threw down five. For Kenyon, D.J. Taylor, Lindsey Abramson and Natalia Arrigoni each posted a team-high three kills.

The Ladies jumped out to decent starts in each of the three sets, claiming narrow leads over the first few points of play. Wittenberg, however, responded with long runs that put the Ladies in catch-up mode. In the first set, the Tigers put together a 9-2 run to take a 13-6 lead. In the second set it was a 15-3 run that blew things open and in the third it was a 9-1 spurt that turned a two-point Wittenberg deficit into a six point advantage.

On the front line, Abramson and Elyse Davidson did what they could to thwart the Tigers. Davidson chalked up a game-high four blocks, while Abramson stuffed three. Maya Sapsford led the Ladies with seven assists and Macy Reimbold chipped in with seven digs and another block.
