Kenyon tops Allegheny again, remains unbeaten

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Ethan Dewbrey scored two goals in the third period to spark a 5-0 Kenyon College run while lifting the Lords lacrosse team to a 13-4 win against the Allegheny College Gators on Sunday at Frank B. Fuhrer Field.

It was the second win against Allegheny in the past five days and was another North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) victory for the Lords, finalizing their East Division record at a perfect 4-0. The Lords' overall record climbed to 5-0 as they head toward their final regular-season game, which is a non-conference contest at Oberlin College on Saturday.

Dewbrey, a junior attack, opened up scoring in what was a rather slow first quarter at Allegheny. His goal, which was assisted by Weston Powell and occurred in a man-up situation, was the only goal tallied in the opening 15 minutes.

Powell, Finn Murray and Joe Boesel scored in the second quarter to give Kenyon a 5-1 halftime lead, but Allegheny got one back at the start of the third quarter to pull within three goals with plenty of time left on the clock.

Shortly after that Gators' goal, Dewbrey used a Jack Giuffre assist to start a Kenyon run that put Allegheny away. Dewbrey scored once more in the quarter, sandwiching a goal from Declan Curry. Before the quarter closed, Curry assisted Boesel on one more Kenyon score, putting the Lords in front 9-2.

Allegheny (2-4, 2-4 NCAC) never got closer than seven goals the rest of the way.

Dewbrey finished with three goals and an assist for a game-high four points. Powell, Curry, and Boesel each finished with two goals and an assist. Over the game's last five minutes, Ronan Gallagher tacked on two more scores for the Lords, who outshot the Gators, 55-27.

The Kenyon offense was kick-started by faceoff specialists Reed Russell and Connor Doughty. Together they won 18-of-20 faceoffs, with Russell responsible for 14 of those wins.

In front of the net, senior goalkeeper David Metzger made eight saves for Kenyon and improved his season save percentage to .660 and his goals against average to 6.77.

After Saturday's upcoming game at Oberlin, the Lords will then prepare for the NCAC championship final, which will take place on Saturday, May 8, most likely at Ohio Wesleyan University or at Denison University.
