Ladies shut out Presidents at home

GAMBIER, OH -- The Kenyon College Ladies defeated the Washington and Jefferson Presidents 3-0 at home on Tuesday night.

The win was goalkeeper Payton Doan's second shutout of the season as the Ladies moved to 2-2 overall on the season. This loss dropped Washington and Jefferson to 0-3 on the season.

The Ladies swarmed the Presidents with a 22-8 advantage in shots and 13-3 difference in shots on goal. Doan played all 60 minutes and saved all three shots she faced.

While the Ladies outshot the Presidents 8-1 in the first quarter, neither team was able to break the scoreless tie.

Less than two minutes into the second quarter, Kenyon took advantage of a penalty corner as Orcin Akman found the cage with Felecia Hamilton being awarded with the assist. The two teams would finish the first half with Kenyon up 1-0.

After halftime, the Ladies would continue to use penalty corners to get shots on goal. After a couple of saves from Presidents goalkeeper Anastasia Godat, Bella Kern would take it herself and find the cage to give Kenon a 2-0 lead.

Early in the fourth quarter, Sarah Metzmaier would get past two Washington and Jefferson players to get in tight with Godat and put it past her. Metzmaier's second goal of the year would give Kenyon a 3-0 lead and add insurance for the Ladies.

The Ladies now travel to Oberlin for a matchup with Oberlin College on Friday before returning to Gambier for a Sunday matchup with Transylvania.
