Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Lucien Kisch

Ladies blank Yeowomen, 2-0

OBERLIN, Ohio -- On Friday evening, the Kenyon College field hockey team took down the Oberlin College Yeowomen, 2-0, on the road. It was a strong all-around performance from the Ladies in their first test against a North Coast Athletic Conference team. The game, however, was a non-conference contest.

Kenyon dominated play during the first quarter, constantly putting pressure on the Oberlin defensive line. They took eight shots, including three by Isabella Meneguzzi, but Yeowomen goalie Julia Vincent made five saves to keep the Ladies off of the board.

The second quarter was more of the same, with Kenyon maintaining the majority of possession while piling on shots. It all seemed for naught until the 22:54 mark, when the Ladies used some clean passing to work the ball down the right flank before centering to Sarah Metzmaier who slotted it past Vincent. It was Metzmaier's team leading third goal of the season.

The Ladies solidified their lead about halfway through the third quarter, when Bella Kern sent a shot into the cage, putting the Kenyon women ahead 2-0. The Ladies continued to be buoyed by their excellent midfield and defense, keeping the Yeowomen from even taking a shot through three quarters.

Late in the fourth quarter, Oberlin began to get more aggressive and finally took two shots on goal, but Kenyon back-up keeper Megan Lydon saved both of them, preserving the clean sheet for the Ladies. Lydon came on in the fourth quarter, spelling starting goalkeeper Payton Doan

The Ladies also continued to keep up the pressure, taking an additional seven shots of their own, albeit without a goal. For the game, the Ladies outshot the Yeowomen 31-2. They also had 21 corners where Oberlin only had one.

With the win, the Ladies improved their record to 3-2. They will look to increase their winning streak to three on Sunday, when they take on Transylvania University at home at noon.
