Kenyon routes Transylvania 5-0 at home

GAMBIER, OH -- The Kenyon College field hockey team defeated Transylvania University 5-0 Sunday afternoon.

The Ladies were in control from start to finish in the game as they scored their first goal just two minutes 41 seconds into the game. Bella Kern set up her team off their second penalty corner of the game . Transylvania forced a deflected pass, but the ball ended up with Emma Hyer right in front of the goal. Hyer easily put the ball in the cage for a 1-0 lead.

Kenyon started the second quarter quickly once again getting four penalty corners in four minutes. It wasn't until the fourth attempt that Hannah Paprotna found Sarah Metzmier at the edge of the shooting circle. Metzmaier ripped the shot to the bottom corner of the cage and in, giving her team a 2-0 lead.

The Ladies would find the back of the cage off a penalty corner once again in the 24th minute. After the ball was put in play, Bella Kern took a loose ball and shot from just inside the circle. The ball went through a host of players before going past Transylvania goalkeeper Libby Bringard. The Ladies lead the Pioneers 3-0 at halftime.

Just over halfway through the third quarter, Kenyon added to their lead when junior Carolyn Herbosa took a failed clearance onto her stick. Herbosa sent an aerial shot toward the cage and over the shoulder of Bringard. Jacqueline McKeown capped off the scoring for her team in the 54th minute when she knocked a saved shot out of the air and into the cage.

The Ladies put 17 of their 28 shots on goal while not surrendering a shot to the Pioneers. Kenyon held the advantage in penalty corners by a 17-1 margain.

Kenyon continues their home stand with a non conference matchup next Sunday at noon with DePauw University.
