Kenyon attack falters at Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio -- The Kenyon College Ladies had some notable individual performances during Tuesday night's non-conference volleyball match at Capital University, but as a team the Kenyon squad just couldn't put things together in a 25-14, 25-22, 25-13 loss.

Senior Elyse Davidson played well, leading the Ladies with nine kills and just two errors in 21 attempts. The rest of the team, however, combined for 15 kills and 22 errors, which put Kenyon at a .000 hitting percentage for the night.

On the other side of the net, Capital recorded 37 kills, a dozen errors and a .263 hitting percentage, which was good enough to keep Kenyon at bay.

Junior setter Jac Cousineau accounted for 22 assists on Kenyon's 24 kills. She also managed seven digs. Ellie Luciani posted a team-high 10 digs, while Lindsey Abramson had eight and Lauren Limbach matched Cousineau's seven. Ambramson added a trio of service aces and Paige Milhon racked up four blocks.

Kenyon (2-10) scored the first two points of the first set and then watched Capital (3-7) crank out seven straight points to build a lead that would not be threatened.

The Ladies were much more competitive in the second set, taking leads of 14-10 and 17-12. Later, an ace from Limbach gave Kenyon a 21-18 lead, but Capital responded with three straight points to knot things up. Davidson then put down a kill to move Kenyon back in front, but Capital rallied with four straight to close out the set.

In the third set, the Ladies kept things close until the mid-way point. Trailing by just one, at 12-11, the Kenyon women saw things quickly unravel. Capital scored eight straight points and then finished things off by tallying five of the set's last six points.

Kenyon, which has played just one North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) match to this point in the season, now heads into the heart of its NCAC schedule. Next up for the Ladies is a Saturday 1 p.m. match at Allegheny College.
