Trio of goals highlight Bryan’s 150th win

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Kenyon College women's soccer team earned its first win of the season, cruising to a 3-0 victory against the Alma College Scots on Friday at Mavec Field.

The win had special significance, as it was Head Coach Kelly Bryan's 150th at Kenyon. She is now 150-136-25 in her 19th season at Kenyon and 206-160-32 throughout her entire collegiate coaching career.

It was a scoreless battle for much of the first half, but that changed near the end of the 42nd minute. That's when junior Caitlin Kollins set up first-year Morgan Baker, who struck the ball into the top left corner, giving the Ladies a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Ladies wasted little time adding to their tally once the second half began. In the 52nd minute, senior Olivia Dion used some fancy footwork to evade two Alma defenders and found her way into the box. Her shot was blocked by Alma goalkeeper Nicole Tuzinowski, but Kenyon midfielder junior Olivia Carriero met the deflection with her head, sending the ball through the net to put the Ladies up 2-0.

Less than eight minutes  later, Kenyon added another tally to its total after Sadie Gould found herself with some space on the left flank. The sophomore took on Tuzinowski in a one-on-one and slammed the ball through the upper right corner of the goalpost.

Leah Anderson had a strong performance in goal for the Ladies, who recorded their first clean sheet of the young season. In her first start of the year, Anderson made seven saves, playing all 90 minutes. She was assisted by a strong defensive effort from the Ladies, who only allowed the Scots to take 15 shots compared to 21 for the Kenyon attack. Anderson, who has played 135 minutes in two games, has yet to allow a goal this season.

The Ladies will be back in action on Saturday, with a bout against George Fox University. The game kicks off at 5 p.m. at Mavec Field.
