Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Lucien Kisch

Generals take charge of game with Ladies

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Kenyon College field hockey team suffered its first loss of the season, falling 3-0 to the Washington and Lee Generals. Despite a strong effort from the Ladies, they were never able to get into a groove on the road against a tough opponent.

Washington and Lee drew first blood, as Generals forward Freddie Tobeason struck from the center of the circle at the 9:29 mark. While that was the only goal they scored during the first quarter, the General dominated play, outshooting Kenyon by an 8-0 margin.

The second quarter was more of the same. The Ladies continued to struggle with maintaining possession and advancing the ball up field. By halftime, Kenyon was staring at a 2-0 deficit after Peyton Tysinger knocked in a rebound off of a deflection by Kenyon goalkeeper Payton Doan. At the half, the Ladies were still looking to unleash their first shot.

The Generals added an insurance goal at the very beginning of the fourth quarter, putting the lid on a dominant performance. Kenyon showed more life during the final quarter, registering four shots, but the Ladies ultimately came up empty. For the game, the Generals racked up a huge 26-4 advantage in shots.

Despite the loss, Doan had a strong performance under pressure and did her best to keep the Ladies in the game. She recorded 10 saves, while only allowing two goals in forty-five minutes of action. First-year Megan Lydon came on to close out the final 15 minutes in cage for Kenyon.

The Ladies' next game is their home opener on Saturday, September 11 against Centre College. That contest kicks off at 11 a.m.
