Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Owls outlast Wabash, 1-0

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- One play made all the difference in the No. 3/4-ranked Kenyon College men's soccer team's 1-0 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) win at Wabash College on Saturday afternoon.

A little more than three minutes into the second half, Kenyon earned a corner kick from the left side. Senior Luke Muther took the corner, sending in a low liner to the mouth of the Wabash goal. As the ball neared the left post, junior Aidan Burns got his head on it, deflecting it just enough to push it past Wabash goalkeeper Soren Russell and into the lower right corner of the net.

Prior to the second-half score, the Kenyon offense didn't generate a whole lot of chances against the host Little Giants. The Owls did have six, first-half shots, but only half of those were on goal. Sebastian Gaese had a breakaway chance in the 22nd minute, but Russell cut off the angles and gave Gaese no room to shoot.

In the game's 36th minute, following a foul and yellow card on Kenyon, Wabash had its best chance to score. In a matter of 20 seconds, three different players unloaded shots at the Kenyon net, but all three were blocked by Kenyon defenders and never got to Owls goalkeeper Jack Pedreschi.

As the first half came to a close, Kenyon was awarded a free kick just outside of the Wabash box. Alem Duratovic took the kick, got it around the Little Giants' wall and toward the right post. Russell, however, made a diving save, keeping things scoreless going into the break.

After scoring the game's lone goal early in the second half, Kenyon generated three more shots, but none on goal. Wabash, meanwhile, cranked up the pressure with six second-half shots. Only one of those six shots was on goal and Pedreschi made the save, the only save he had to make throughout the game.

In the final stat line, both teams produced 10 shots, while Kenyon built a 7-3 advantage in corners, with one of those corners leading to the game's lone goal.

The victory improved Kenyon's marks to 10-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the NCAC. The loss ended a six-game undefeated streak for Wabash, which slid to 9-3-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the NCAC.
