CLEVELAND, Ohio -- After helping the Owls go 1-1 on the week and notching a career-high on the glass, Kenyon's Claudia Cooke collected North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors for women's basketball.
Cooke averaged 11 points, 16.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks, and three assists over two games. The junior helped Kenyon reach season-highs in points (68), rebounds (48), assists (15), and blocked shots (8) with seven points, 11 boards, a season-high four blocks, and three assists in a 68-59 win over Penn State Shenango. Cooke followed that performance with a 15-point, 22-rebound double-double against Penn State Behrend while adding a trio of blocks and assists.
The center's 22 rebounds were a career-high, an NCAC season-high, and the third-highest total in program history. The output was one rebound shy of the 23 Danielle Bartlett grabbed against Oberlin College in 1993 and three shy of the program record of 25 set by Mary Salmon against John Carroll University in 1984. Cooke did work on both sides of the glass, averaging 8.5 offensive rebounds and eight boards on the defensive side for the week.
The Owls have an eight-day break before their next contest, when they will host Otterbein University in Tomsich Arena at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18. Kenyon is then scheduled to head to Las Vegas, Nevada, from Dec. 29-30 for two games at the D3 Hoops Classic to close out 2022.
