GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Kenyon College swimming and diving programs were well represented at the Toyota U.S. Open, a four-day event held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Among the Kenyon contingent, four swimmers did well enough in preliminary heats to qualify for final heats. That list included Yurii Kosian, Djordje Dragojlovic and
Marko Krtinic for the men's team and
Jennah Fadely for the women's team.
Of that quartet, Kosian had the best showing. In the 100-meter backstroke, he clocked in at 55.72, which was the eighth best time among 48 participants and vaulted him into the evening A final. In the final, Kosian posted a time of 56.17, which also landed him in eighth place.
Kosian also swam in the 200-meter backstroke and qualified for the C final by turning in a morning time of 2:04.79. Due to travel issues, however, Kosian did not swim in the final.
The other three Kenyon qualifiers all earned spots in the C final. Dragojlovic did so in the 100-meter backstroke, Krtinic hit the mark in the 100-meter butterfly and Fadely earned the extra swim in the 100-meter breaststroke.
Dragojlovic clocked in a 57.33 to claim 22nd place in the 100-meter backstroke preliminaries and then posted a 57.47 to take fifth place in the C final. Krtinic registered a 54.98 to place 22nd in the 100-meter butterfly prelims and then produced a 54.88 to place fifth in the C final. On the women's side, Fadely clocked in at 1:11.97 to place 23rd in the 100-meter butterfly prelims. Later, in the C final, she rang up a second-place finish with a time of 1:10.68.
Other Kenyon swimmers who participated in U.S. Open events included Bryan Fitzgerald, Cherantha De Silva, Luis Weekes, Daniel Brooks, Spencer Pruett and Gabrielle Wei.
