Denison edges Kenyon for team title on final race

RESULTS

GRANVILLE, Ohio – In the final race of the 2022 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships, Denison University slipped past the Kenyon College men's swimming and diving team for the team title. The Lords finished with 1,973.5 total points while the Big Red ended the four-day meet with 1,978.5.

Starting the night, Bryan Fitzgerald finished second in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:28.56. James Tracey finished fourth in the event with his time of 15:43.52.

The Lords collected points in the 100-yard individual medley as Marcus Hong finished second (50.42). Marko Krtinic finished third in the 100-yard freestyle with his time of 44.81.

In the 200-yard backstroke, Spencer Pruett touched first with his conference-record breaking time of 1:45.41. Yurii Kosian finished right behind Pruett with a time of 1:45.61.

Of the Lords in the 200-yard breaststroke, Luis Weekes finished the strongest. Weekes took second in the event (2:00.56).In the next event, Noah Hargrove finished third in the 200-yard butterfly (1:48.82).

With the Big Red only three points behind Kenyon going into the final race, it set the stage for a winner-take-all event. Denison took the win and the championship with a winning time of 2:56.73y, only 1.24 seconds ahead of Krtinic, David Fitch, Daniel Brooks, and Joe Black.

At the conclusion of the championships, Fitzgerald collected NCAC Swimmer of the Year honors while Israel Zavaleta hauled in NCAC Diver of the Year.

The Lords return home to host the Kenyon Fast Chance Invitational on Feb. 19.
