Fitzgerald wins second title of championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Bryan Fitzgerald claimed his second national title of the 2022 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championship and David Fitch took second place in the 100-yard butterfly. Despite those efforts, the Lords fell to eighth place in team standings. 


The Lords started off Thursday's session with an 11th place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Fitch, Daniel Brooks, Marcus Hong and Marko Krtinic finished the race in 1:20.61.

Fitzgerald then claimed his second overall national title in the 400-yard individual medley. The junior clocked in at 3:47.62, more than four seconds better than his second-place finish at the 2019 Championship. 

Fitch's then recorded his second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly. He finished the championship final with a meet record time of 46.86 seconds, but University of Chicago's Jesse Ssengonzi edged Fitch with a new championship record of 46.77 seconds.

Yurii Kosian later added a 10th-place showing in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:38.51. 

Kenyon, which took a big hit in the standings due to a pair of relay disqualificaions, looks to make up ground on day three of the Championship tomorrow.
