Zavaleta rewrites one-meter championship record

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Kenyon College diver Israel Zavaleta posted a new one-meter meet record during Friday's session of the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championship. Zavaleta, winner of the three-meter board on Wednesday, swept the men's diving events.

Zavaleta ended the one-meter competition with a score of 576.40, breaking the previous Championship record of 557.90 set by Gabe Korteum in 2002. The sophomore broke his own Kenyon record by 11.8 points and finished just 2.3 points off the overall NCAA record.

In the 200-yard butterfly, Noah Hargrove finished 11th overall with a time of 1:48.52. Nicholas Tong posted a 26th overall finish with his time of 1:51.58.

Three Lords hauled in All-America honors in the 100-yard backstroke. Yurii Kosian finished fourth (47.04), while Spencer Pruett finished eighth (48.20). Marcus Hong finished his race in 48.98 to take 20th overall and Daniel Brooks finished in 32nd (49.82).

Luis Weekes collected his second career All-America award in the 100-yard breaststroke. His time of 54.69 shaved off just over a second from his 2019 national meet time. Joe Black finished 28th overall, posting a time of 55.76.

The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Bryan Fitzgerald, Pruett, Kosian, and Noah Althoff placed sixth, finishing the team race in 6:33.82.

Kenyon, currently sixth overall with 216.5 points, looks to secure a top-five finish tomorrow evening.
