Lords cruise to conference win against Terriers

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Eighteen different Kenyon College players scored goals and 22 registered points Saturday as the host Lords lacrosse team rolled to a 25-7 conference win against the Hiram College Terriers on The Field at Benson Bowl.

Hiram (4-6, 0-5 NCAC) scored the first goal of the game, only to be answered by an avalanche of 10 Kenyon goals that closed out the first quarter of play. Jack Giuffre, who led all scores with four goals and five points, notched three of his goals in that first quarter.

Giuffre registered his fourth goal in a man-up situation that started the second quarter. That sustained a string of what turned out to be 15 straight Kenyon goals scored between the first and second quarter. The outburst resulted in a 15-3 Kenyon lead at the break.

The lead only increased from there. The Lords outscored Hiram 6-3 in the third quarter and 5-1 in the fourth to post their best single-game scoring total since ringing up 27 against the same Hiram program back in the 2019 season.

The Lords dominated every facet of the game, outshooting the Terriers, 63-27, and winning 24 of the 34 face-offs. The Lords also held a huge 58-26 advantage in ground balls.

Kenyon (9-3, 4-1 NCAC) did, however, struggle to stay out of the penalty box. The Lords' 11 infractions resulted in four man-up goals for Hiram.

On the other side of the field, Cameron Longway matched Giuffre's game-high five points. He did so with two goals and three assists. Mike Asuncion checked out with four points on a goal and three assists, while both Declan Curry and Sam Hatfield recorded two goals and an assist. David Lifson chipped in with a goal and two assists and both Will Sayegh and Will Harrigan tossed in two goals for the Lords.

With four games left on their regular-season schedule, the next one for the Lords will be at The College of Wooster on Wednesday afternoon.
