Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Second half lifts Big Red over Lords

GRANVILLE, Ohio – Despite leading at halftime, the Kenyon College men's lacrosse team couldn't find an offensive rhythm in the second half of the 2022 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship. The Lords led 5-4 at halftime, but the Big Red outscored Kenyon 8-0 in the second half.

In the first five minutes of the game, the Big Red sent a flurry of shots towards the goal. Of the five shots, Mayo Amorello made two saves. Denison scored the game's opening goal with 9:43 left in the first quarter. Rollins Heath leveled the score for the Lords at 8:22 before giving Kenyon its first lead at the 5:15 mark. After a Denison failed clearance, the Lords extended their lead as Mike Matteo found Joe Bolea on the fast break. At the end of the first quarter, Kenyon held a 3-1 lead.

The Big Red brought the game within one with 10:33 remaining before halftime on Quinn O'Donnell's goal. With four and a half minutes left, Declan Curry restored the Lords' two-goal advantage. In a span of two minutes, Denison tied up the game at four. As the clock approached zero, Bolea found Jack Giuffre for a go-ahead goal with 17 seconds in the period.

The second half proved to be all Denison as the Big Red tied the game with 10:10 left in the third and took the lead at the 2:31 mark. Luke Fisher pushed the advantage to two, scoring a minute and a half before the fourth quarter. In the fourth, Denison scored with 12:09 and 11:22 left in the quarter. Later on in the period, the Big Red added three goals in a span of two and a half minutes, sealing the game.

Following the game, Amorello, Bolea, Kern Byrnes, and Giuffre were named to the 2022 All-Tournament Team.
