Fighting Scots down Lords in season finale

WOOSTER, Ohio – With the postseason looming, the Kenyon College baseball team looked to secure their spot against the College of Wooster on Saturday. The Fighting Scots played spoiler to the Lords' postseason hopes, sweeping the series.

GAME ONE

Kenyon started the scoring quickly in the top of the first inning. Nate Rosen drew a full-count walk and Alex Gow singled, moving Rosen to second. With the pair of runners on and one out, Andrew Rabinowitz doubled to the opposite field to score Rosen.

In the third, the Lords used a similar method to get their second run of the game. Rosen forced another walk from the Scots' pitching staff before stealing second. After a strikeout by Gow, Rabinowitz doubled into the left-center gap, bringing in Rosen once again.

An inning later, the Lords put their third run on the board. Drew Robinson singled and stole second, giving Kenyon a runner on second with one out. Alexander Hoskins singled up the middle, but Robinson was forced to stay at third. Following Malcolm Gaynor's walk, Rosen lifted a sacrifice fly to right, bringing in Robinson.

The Lords kept Wooster off the board until the bottom of the sixth inning. Back-to-back doubles by the Scots ended Kenyon's shutout and brought the game within two. The Lords escaped the Wooster pressure in the inning to keep their advantage.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Scots loaded the bases on hit batsmen with one out. After a Kenyon pitching change, Dean Brown singled through the middle, allowing two runners to score and tie the game.

In their next three chances, the Lords managed to get base runners on board but couldn't scratch across a run. In the bottom of the 11th, Wooster started the inning with a hit by pitch and a walk. A flyout to center registered the inning's first out but moved the winning run to third base. Dillon Cleary struck out the next batter to put Kenyon in position to escape the jam. Another hit batter loaded the bases ahead of Jack Whitehouse's walk-off single to left.

GAME TWO

Wooster started game two by scoring four runs on two hits in the bottom of the first inning. The Lords responded in the top of the second by taking a 5-4 lead. Robinson started the rally with a single before stealing his way to third base. Hoskins brought in Robinson on a single into left field, cutting into the Scots' lead. Malcolm Gaynor walked to load the bases and forced a Wooster pitching change. After the change, Rosen brought in a run on a sacrifice fly. A series of three straight singles by Alex Gow, Rabinowitz, and Luke Meister scored Kenyon's go-ahead runs.

After taking the lead, Wooster reclaimed the lead on a three-run homerun. From that point on, the game sat firmly in the hands of the Scots. Wooster added two runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth.

The Scots put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs on three hits and two Kenyon errors.

The Lords end their season with a 23-13 overall record and an 11-7 mark in North Coast Athletic Conference play.
