Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Kenyon starts quick, settles for tie

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Kenyon College women's soccer team scored twice in the first 26 minutes of Saturday's game at Transylvania University. The host Pioneers, however, answered those two goals in the second half and the teams had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Kenyon's first goal was scored following a free kick from the right side. Morgan Baker sent the ball into the box, where it was headed around a couple times. The final bounce, off Sadie Gould's head, came to Talulla Sheridan, who loaded up her left foot and booted the ball before it reached the turf. Her shot, from about 16 yards out, found its mark just inside the right post of the Pioneers' goal.

The Owls' second goal, about 17 minutes later, also developed off a free kick. This time around, the free kick was just outside the center circle. From there, Claudia Abram punted the ball into the Transylvania box. In the scrum to gain control, Elyse Judge got a left foot on the ball, propelling it toward the goal. On its way, it deflected off Olivia Carriero's back and over the goal line.

During the course of that first half of play, Kenyon outshot Transylvania 9-0. The Owls racked up another eight shots in the second half, but did not score again.

The Pioneers, who had five shots in the second half, scored on two of them. The first came at the 74:00 mark, when a long Transylvania pass died at the top of the Kenyon box. Two Kenyon players, including the goalkeeper, collided when they both tried to play the ball. That allowed Transylvania's Maddi Benjamin to take over and uncork an uncontested shot into the Owls' goal.

At the 77:15 mark, Kenyon was whistled for a foul in the box. Isabella White took the penalty kick for Transylvania and fired her shot into the left side of the Kenyon net.

The tie moved Kenyon's overall record to 1-3-2, while Transylvania moved to 1-1-3.

Up next for the Owls is a home game against Otterbein University. That contest will kick off Tuesday at 5 p.m.
