Owls trounce Terriers in team win

GAMBIER, Ohio – Despite the heavy rain and cold gusts of wind, nothing could cool down theOwls offense on Saturday afternoon at Mavec Field, as the No. 25 ranked Kenyon College men's soccer team (11-3) bested the visiting Hiram College Terriers (4-10-1) by a score of  8-1 in a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) bout.

Kenyon's three first half goals allowed the squad to spread the wealth for the remainder of the game, with six different Owls combining for the eight goals and all three goalkeepers getting action. The game also marked season highs in points, goals, assists, shots, and shots on goal in the offensive showcase.

The first two goals came from Eamon Dujakovic, his seventh and eighth of the season. Alex Ramirez sent an up-field cross to Dujakovich in the eighth minute to set up a low burner into the right corner for the game's first goal. Six minutes later, Joey Martens fed a sliding Dujakovich from the corner to extend the Owls lead to two.

Dujakovich again was involved in the match's third goal, as he headed Aidan Burns' corner kick to Atli Hrafnkelsson who poked home the Owls third goal of the game.

In the first, the Owls outshot the Terriers 10-2 and had a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks. Jack Pedreschi only had to make one save in the start and was pulled for first-year Owen Boukalik to start the second half.

Boukalik was tested early in the half, nearly missing a shot from Matt Callan that hit off the crossbar but making an excellent recovery save off of that rebound from Bobby Lucey five minutes into the half.

Before long, Kenyon returned to the scoresheet. Robert Little trailed a fast break opportunity and picked up Alem Duratovic's blocked shot and ripped a worm burner past the diving Hiram goalkeeper in the game's 63rd minute to send the Owls up 4-0.

Five minutes later, however, Hiram would score its only goal of the game, a header by Keagan Le'Roux off of a cross from Koltyn Hunt got past a charging Boukalik to cut the Owls lead to 4-1.

The Owls responded as Little scored again less than 30 seconds later as Little picked up a loose ball near the Kenyon offensive box, dribbled up the field and powered another low ball past the Terriers goalkeeper, notching his second and third goals of the season to send the Owls up 5-1.

Ten minutes later, Matt Nguyen and Jacob Lazarus got involved in the scoring, as Nguyen scored a header from a Max Thesing cross, while Lazarus fielded a perfectly placed pass from Matt Prusan to put the Owls up six and 7-1.

Finally, Moustapha Gassama timed up a penalty kick in the 87th minute to fool the Terriers keeper and notch the final goal for the Owls, ending the match 8-1.

For the second half, Boukalik made two saves and Fred Pardue added one. The Owls outshot the Terriers 25-7 and had a 7-1 corner advantage for the game.

Kenyon's record moves to 11-3 on the season and the team remains undefeated in NCAC play. The Owls travel to Springfield, Ohio on Wednesday, October 18th at 7:30 pm to take on the Wittenberg University Tigers.
