Owls post big win at Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio -- Winning all 14 events contested Friday night at Meek Aquatics Center, the Kenyon College women's swimming and diving team coasted to a 218-36 victory over the host Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University.

Ten different Owls accounted for victories in the 12 individual events with Celia Ford and Bengisu Caymaz each claiming a pair of wins. Ford, a junior, first won the 50-yard backstroke (28.04) and later claimed the top spot in the 50-yard butterfly (26.54). Caymaz, a first-year, notched the team's first individual-event win of the night, taking first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:12.44). She also won the meet's last individual event, proving the quickest in the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.23).

Joining Caymaz and representing Kenyon's first-year class with wins were Kate Bogan and Julia McGovern. Bogan touched first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.41) and McGovern stopped the clock first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:15.77).

Other Kenyon individual-event wins came from Sydney Geboy in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.10), Jean Cook in the 50-yard breaststroke (31.12), Gabrielle Wei in the 100-yard butterfly (59.99), Julia Golovina in the 50-yard freestyle (24.79), Jennah Fadely in the 100-yard freestyle (53.41) and Gwen Eisenbeis in the 100-yard backstroke (59.87).

In relay competition, the Owls won the meet-opening 800-yard medley (8:44.06). Eisenbeis was a part of that quartet that also included Jordan Herrera, Sydney Buchman and Sofia Giordano.

The meet ended with a final Kenyon victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:37.60). That winning team consisted of Fadely, Geboy, Nikola Kovacova and Sydney Srnka.

While swimming was going on at Ohio Wesleyan, Kenyon hosted a small diving event at home. Katarina Ilic, a Kenyon senior, wound up winning on both boards. On the 1-meter she posted a winning score of 279.65 and on the 3-meter her winning score was 511.75. In those same two events, teammates Claire Fergusson was runner up and Olive O'Dorisio was third.
