Fadely, Golovina compete at Almost Heaven Open

MORGANTOWN, WV -- With sights set on posting 2024 Olympic Trials qualifying times, select members of the Kenyon College swimming and diving team competed in West Virginia University's four-day Almost Heaven Long Course Open, which concluded Tuesday night.

The Owls didn't have any entries in Saturday's events, so they got started Sunday with a pair of preliminary times that garnered spots in the evening finals session.

Jennah Fadely, a junior, turned in Kenyon's best finish of the day. In the 200-meter individual medley, she clocked in at 2:27.38 during the morning preliminaries. In the evening finals, she cut that down to a 2:25.02 and claimed fourth place.

Kenyon's other Sunday swimmer was sophomore Julia Golovina. She finished the 50-meter freestyle prelims in 26.99, which was good for fourth place. In the evening's final, she posted a 27.71 and claimed sixth place.

The meet schedule included five events on Monday, but Fadely was the only Kenyon swimmer to jump back in the pool. She swam in the 100-meter breaststroke and turned in a preliminary time of 1:13.83, which placed her fourth and led to a spot in the finals. That evening, she clipped a little bit more time off her morning mark, clocking in at 1:13.77 and remained in fourth place.

Tuesday, Golovina got back to work. She was the only entry in the 100-meter freestyle race. She started with a time of 1:02.59 in her preliminary heat and then finished in the evening by shaving a full second off that time, touching the wall in 1:01.54.

Fadely rounded out the Kenyon swims with Tuesday's 200-meter breaststroke. Like the 100, she again held down fourth-place spots both in the preliminaries and finals. Her morning time was 2:47.48 and her evening time was 2:46.46. She later swam a time trial in the 50-meter freestyle and finished in 28.46.

Despite those strong swims, neither Fadely or Golovina were able to ring up Olympic Trials qualifying marks. The pair will now return for winter break and then lead the Kenyon team into its next competition, which will be a home dual meet with Oberlin College and Cleveland State University on Friday, January 12.
